This used to be a “blog post,” but I’ve promoted it to “page” status as I think it’s kind of important, and I’ll be editing it as my understanding and use of AI evolve.
I’ve fallen in love with AI images.
I try to use as much of my own and my son Hugo’s illustrations, but it’s not always practical. I have started using AI art as feature images. It can be hard trying to come up with a prompt that gets the image I want, and sometimes the AI is just crap, but it usually comes up with something fun. Even the goofy images where people have three eyes and seven fingers are endearing. (I’ve noticed AI has a really hard time with weapons like bows or swords)
I agonised over the right way to attribute AI art. For the most part, my creative input is limited to putting in a simple prompt (and I sometimes get AI to write the prompt for me), so I’ve decided to use the most permissive Creative Commons license I can find.
I’ll try to keep AI to a minimum and use Hugo’s or my drawing as much as possible, but where I don’t have decent artwork, AI can jump in with some quirky fun.
